25 YEARS OF PLANNING AND DESIGN IN CENTRAL VICTORIA
In 1997 Hamish MacCallum launched into Horticulture and Permaculture, building an organic Herb farm outside of Heathcote, Victoria.
Confronted with the reality of living with bushfire (having lost the family home on Mt. Macedon in the Ash Wednesday fires) Hamish focussed much of his learning in landscape around how to reduce the effects of bushfire through careful planning and design. In 2006 he joined the CFA as a volunteer firefighter to gain first-hand knowledge on bushfire behaviour, now serving his local community as Captain of Fryerstown Fire Brigade, also working as a grassland curing observer for the CFA throughout the fie season.
Hamish has continued to develop his knowledge and experience in bushfire planning and design, incorporating his experience with over 120 landscape designs around Central Victoria, along with three years working in house construction. During his time as a builder Hamish saw the new bushfire construction standards in practice and has incorporated bushfire resilient building into his own property 'Microcarpa', which is a working example of resilient bushfire design and management in one of Victoria's most bushfire prone landscapes.
Hamish brings over 25 years of landscape design experience
and over 16 years of bushfire management experience.
